What a year it has been for the arts in Wake County! This year’s National PTA Reflections program brought us together in a powerful way, encouraging each of us to reflect on our own strengths and imperfections as we embraced the theme “Accepting Imperfection.” While the theme presented its challenges, it also gave our students a unique opportunity to express themselves creatively.
Over 530 students from 72 schools across Wake County entered their art in this year’s competition, with many submitting entries in multiple categories. These students have shown courage in sharing their personal interpretations of this thought-provoking theme, and we celebrate each one of them for their creativity, determination, and passion.
This year, the Wake County PTA was permitted to send one winner* from each category and division to represent our district at the North Carolina State PTA level. The judging process was an exceptionally difficult task, with many entries standing out for their innovative and meaningful Artist’s Statements, which connected deeply to the theme. While only the highest-scoring “Winner” entries advanced to the State competition, we want to acknowledge and celebrate many students who excelled in this year’s program.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our individual school PTA Reflections Chairs, whose hard work and commitment were crucial to the success of this program. These dedicated volunteers worked diligently at their schools, motivating students, organizing entries, and ensuring that deadlines were met. Their efforts played a key role in making this year’s competition a success.
We look forward to celebrating these remarkable students at our upcoming awards celebration on April 12, 2025, at Farmington Woods Elementary. All students on the full honorees list and their families are invited to join us! The Wake County PTA Reflections Committee cannot wait to honor the creativity, talent, and hard work of these incredible young artists. Parents and school chairs will receive additional information about the celebration in the new year.
We hope that the artistic spirit ignited in this year’s program continues to inspire students across Wake County to keep expressing themselves and sharing their unique perspectives with the world through the power of art. We can’t wait to see what you do with next year’s theme: “I Belong!”
Yours,
Sandy & Tracy
