Reflections - SPECIAL ARTIST DIVISION

10/22/2018

Students with Special Needs…Share your Artistic Talents!

Picture
It has been 50 years since the National PTA began their annual art competition, called Reflections. Students can submit entries in the categories of Dance, Film, Literature, Music, Photography, and Visual Arts. This year’s theme is Heroes Around Me.

  1. The Special Artist Division welcomes all grades and all abilities and offers non-artistic accommodations (e.g. adaptive technology; transcribing; holding a camera) for students to participate fully in PTA Reflections. Student assistants must refrain from being involved in the artistic process (e.g. developing an artist statement, choreography, music lyrics, storyboards, etc.) Student recognition and awards are announced as part of the Special Artist Division.
  2. Student may also choose to enter in the grade division (primary, intermediate, middle or high school) most closely aligned to their functional abilities. In this case, students follow all general rules and arts category rules but may submit their entries in the grade division most closely aligned to their cognitive or functional abilities. These students are recognized and awarded as part of the general student population, without regard to special needs or challenges.

HOW TO ENTER THE SPECIAL ARTIST DIVISION CATEGORY:

Students submit their artwork to their school PTA. (NOTE: Not all schools participate in Reflections. A student’s school PTA must be participating in Reflections, in order for them to participate. If you are unsure if your school is participating in Reflections, please contact your school’s PTA or email Reflections@wakepta.org for assistance in getting in touch with your school’s Reflections Chair.)

The winning artwork from each school is sent to Wake PTA Council to be judged. The winning artwork from Wake County will be sent the state level.

Special Artists must follow the guidelines established by your school’s Reflection Chair regarding due dates and submission guidelines. Each school’s Reflection chair will handle the process of submitting all artwork to the Wake County PTA Council. More information can be found at: www.wakepta.org/reflections-201819
