Wake PTA was awarded $15,000 from the Hurricanes to support parent literacy nights at the 10 elementary schools receiving books from the WAKE Up and Read book drive! The Kids 'N Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that offers programming assistance and financial funds to assist local area youth organizations. The Foundation supports organizations that focus on the areas of health, education and under-served populations. Thank you Canes, and thank you to our many, many local PTA/PTSA units collecting books to share with kids in Wake - together everyone achieves more! WCPSS is hosting "Community Input Sessions on Curriculum" Beginning Feb. 20 WCPSS will host several Community Input Sessions on Curriculum throughout Wake County to gather input from parents and the community. Good teaching and learning always happen in our schools. This is made evident by our student achievement outcomes and our graduation rate, which is at its highest point ever. This doesn’t just happen. We continually seek to provide solid curriculum resources to teachers to ensure a more meaningful and dynamic learning experience for our students. What this means for parents is knowing that their children are being supported in doing work that is increasingly relevant and appropriately challenging for their age and grade level. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year and over the next three years, we will be significantly bolstering the curriculum resources we provide in our schools. But first, we seek parental and community input on the resources and materials we are considering. In these sessions, you will be asked to review some very high quality curriculum resources to be introduced in our schools beginning next year. Teachers and other school professionals will be on hand to guide you through the process. There will be two different sessions, each offered multiple times. One is for high school math. The other is for English Language Arts in Grades 3 through 8. All sessions are open to parents and community members from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (above from WCPSS website - please click here to see the detailed schedule.) Thank you for your interest in applying for scholarship funds through the Dr. James E. Hedrick, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. This one-time scholarship is being offered for high school seniors graduating in June 2017 with an interest in pursuing a career in education, with special emphasis given to future educators with a strong interest in athletic coaching. This scholarship recognizes outstanding high school students from schools in the Wake County Public School System that have PTA or PTSA units that are members of the Wake County PTA Council. If you are uncertain as to whether your school’s PTA/PTSA unit is a member of the Wake County PTA Council, please check with your unit president or treasurer to determine your eligibility to apply. The awards, which may vary in size from $1,000 up to $5,000 in value, will be announced in May 2017. Award checks will be issued in June 2017, and these checks will be made payable to both the scholarship winner and the winner’s post-secondary school. Therefore, the student(s) receiving these scholarships will need to work with the Bursar’s office at their post-secondary school to ensure that the funds are appropriately applied to the student’s account. This scholarship application must be completed online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HedrickScholarship2017 Thank you for your interest in this special award! ![]()
